Pukyong National University, Busan City, and Shinhan Card Sign Agreement on Public and Private Big Data Utilization

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Pukyong National University, Busan City, and Shinhan Card have joined hands to utilize vast public and private data.


On the morning of the 22nd, Pukyong National University President Jang Young-su, Busan Mayor Park Hyung-joon, and Shinhan Card Group CEO Yoo Tae-hyun signed a "Data-Based Policy Analysis and Research Agreement for Revitalizing the Economy of Small and Medium-Sized Merchants and Fostering Data Science Convergence Talent" at the 26th-floor conference room of Busan City Hall.


This agreement was prepared to establish a strong cooperation system among government, industry, and academia so that Busan can leap forward as the undisputed forefront of digital transformation.


To this end, Busan City and Shinhan Card will utilize vast public and private data to present future growth strategies for small and medium-sized merchants such as traditional markets to revitalize the local economy, while Pukyong National University will nurture specialized talents in data science at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels in the region.


Pukyong National University plans to involve the College of Information Convergence, a specialized college in data and information fields, and the Human ICT Convergence major to discover big data utilization cases held by Busan City and Shinhan Card and to foster data science convergence talents equipped with practical capabilities to thrive in the industrial field.

The specific cooperation areas under this business agreement include ▲ cooperation in data analysis and policy research to revitalize Busan's consumer economy, tourism, and support for small and medium-sized merchants using public and private data ▲ cooperation in fostering regional data science convergence talents through participation in data analysis and data utilization by university students, master's and doctoral students ▲ mutual cooperation to realize the social value of big data and develop the data ecosystem within the region.


President Jang Young-su of Pukyong National University said, "A good foundation has been established for local talents to grow into data science experts," adding, "We will put more effort into fostering convergence talents for Busan's digital transformation."


Before the signing ceremony, Professor Kim Jeong-hwan of Pukyong National University shared cases and achievements of convergence talent fostering programs being conducted in cooperation with Naver, Busan City, and others, such as the "Small Merchant Digital Transformation Supporters" and "Busan City Big Data Supporters."
