Gumi-Europe Business Exchange Meeting Supports European Market Entry
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] A delegation led by Mayor Kim Jang-ho of Gumi City will visit Germany, Spain, and France from February 23 to March 5 for 9 nights and 11 days to expand economic cooperation and international exchange with major European cities and support local companies' entry into the European market.
On February 24, the delegation will visit Wolfsburg City Hall in Germany to meet with Mayor Dennis Weilmann and begin with signing a letter of intent for a friendship agreement between the two cities. They will then visit the Chamber of Commerce and the 'Open Hybrid Lab Factory' to discuss economic cooperation plans between the two cities.
Wolfsburg is a representative industrial city in Germany, home to Volkswagen headquarters and major production plants, and has maintained continuous exchanges with Gumi City in economic, human, and industrial fields since 2011.
Next, the delegation will move to Barcelona, Spain, where 15 Gumi city businesspeople, including Kwak Ho-sang, President of Kumoh National Institute of Technology, and Yoon Jae-ho, Chairman of the Gumi Chamber of Commerce, will attend the world's largest electronics exhibition, MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2023. On the 28th, a Gumi City-Europe business exchange meeting will be held with local institutions such as the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Spain, Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, Catalonia Trade & Investment Agency, and representatives from over 30 European companies.
Finally, the Gumi City and Kumoh National Institute of Technology delegation will visit Grenoble-Alpes M?tropole in France to meet with Chairman Christophe Ferrari and sign a letter of intent for a friendship agreement between the two cities.
They will also visit Grenoble University and the Graduate School of Engineering to exchange opinions on fostering talent and promoting student exchanges between the two cities.
Grenoble-Alpes M?tropole is known as the European Silicon Valley, being a hub for advanced technologies such as secondary batteries, nuclear power, and AI, and hosting many prestigious universities and renowned research institutes.
The delegation will hold a meeting with Korean businesspeople in Grenoble, visit the French Nuclear Energy Agency, and Schneider Electric before moving to Paris to meet with the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to France, seeking active cooperation to support local companies' entry into the European market, and then return home.
Mayor Kim Jang-ho said, “Through this visit, we plan to expand practical exchanges and cooperation in various fields based on value diplomacy partnerships with major cities in Germany, France, and Spain. By attending MWC and holding business exchange meetings, we expect to support the technological growth of Gumi companies, understand global industrial trends, and pioneer the European market, laying the foundation for the regional economy's resurgence.”
