Director Makoto Shinkai, who attracted 10 million viewers three times in a row in Japan with the films 'Your Name.' (2017), 'Weathering with You' (2019), and 'Suzume no Tojimari,' will visit Korea next month.
On the 22nd, distributor Showbox announced that director Makoto Shinkai will visit Korea from March 7 to 9. Actress Hara Nanoka, who voiced Suzume in 'Suzume no Tojimari,' will also accompany him on the visit.
'Suzume no Tojimari,' which will be released domestically on the 8th of next month, tells the story of a girl named Suzume who accidentally opens a door that brings disasters and desperately closes doors to prevent disasters occurring throughout Japan.
'Suzume no Tojimari' is a Japanese feature-length animated film and was invited to the official competition section of the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival for the first time in 21 years since the Golden Bear award for 'Spirited Away' (2002).
Hara Nanoka, who is visiting Korea with director Makoto Shinkai, debuted as a child actress in 2009 and took her first leading role in a film at age 13 with 'Opening Night' (2017). She was selected for the role of Suzume, beating a competition rate of 1700 to 1, and challenged voice acting for the first time. The director explained the casting reason, saying, "She is closer than anyone else in terms of emotion and voice."
Hara Nanoka said, "In the summer of my first year of middle school, I first saw director Makoto Shinkai's work in a movie theater and was so deeply moved that I will never forget it for the rest of my life. I can't believe that I get to convey that emotion."
