Woo Oh-hyun, Chairman of SM Group, Donates 200 Million Won to Gyeongbuk Province

"Please Use It for the Descendants of Independence Activists"

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Koo Dae-sun] Gyeongbuk Province announced on the 21st that it participated in the Pan-Provincial Neighborly Love Happiness Sharing Campaign, promoted by SM Group and Samra Hope Foundation to spread the culture of donation, and donated 200 million KRW.


This donation will be used for improving the living environment of the descendants of independence activists who sacrificed and devoted themselves for the country's independence, through the Gyeongbuk Social Welfare Community Chest.


Gyeongbuk Province, which produced the largest number of independence activists nationwide, signed an MOU in August 2020 with Korea Habitat, Gyeongbuk Youth Volunteer Group, and the Liberation Association, becoming the first in the nation to repair the old houses of 35 households of independence activists' descendants by 2022, and this year is promoting the project targeting 10 households.


There are 17,664 independence activists nationwide, of which 2,446 (14%) are from Gyeongbuk.

Woo Oh-hyun, Chairman of SM Group, said, “I wanted to express my condolences and gratitude to the independence activists who devoted everything for the country,” and promised, “We will continue to make efforts, even if small, for the development of the local community.”


Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, said, “SM Group is a company that has led the region by practicing ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) management encompassing social contribution to future talent development,” and added, “We deeply appreciate their participation in this meaningful campaign and will use the funds carefully to honor and promote the descendants of independence activists.”


SM Group is a large conglomerate ranked 34th in the business world, with about 60 affiliates in manufacturing, construction, shipping, and services.
