Gyeongnam Province Supports School Uniform Purchase Costs Again This Year... 300,000 KRW Per Person

Application Available from March 2 via Gyeongnam Direct Access Service

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Gyeongsangnam-do will begin accepting applications for the 2023 school uniform purchase subsidy for new middle and high school students starting March 2.

Gyeongnam Province announced that it is implementing the school uniform purchase subsidy project to strengthen the public nature of education and realize universal educational welfare that reduces the economic burden on parents.

According to the province, the eligible recipients are approximately 65,000 first-year new students enrolled in middle and high schools within Gyeongnam Province, alternative education institutions authorized by the education office, and first-year students who transferred or enrolled from other cities or provinces to schools within Gyeongnam.

Each recipient will receive 300,000 KRW in cash.

This year, the province will operate an online system linked with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s Public MyData service, allowing applications without in-person visits using computers or smartphones.

Applications can be submitted through the Gyeongnam Baro Service on the Gyeongnam provincial website, and starting this year, applicants will be notified of the application results via text message.

To prevent delays and inconveniences during simultaneous online access, middle school students can apply from March 2 to 8, high school students from March 9 to 15, and all students can apply anytime until November 30.

A provincial official explained, “This project was first implemented in 2020 targeting new middle school students by Gyeongsangnam-do and its 18 cities and counties, and since then, the eligibility has been expanded to include high school students.”

Ha Jeong-su, the education officer, said, “This will have effects on realizing educational welfare for new middle and high school students who are future talents of the Gyeongnam region, strengthening the public nature of education, and alleviating the economic burden on parents. We will continue to improve the application system to make the school uniform purchase subsidy application process faster and more convenient.”
