[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] On the 21st, Gwangju Gwangsan Fire Station announced that it is promoting stickers displaying indoor fire hydrant usage instructions in both Korean and foreign languages.
This promotion was prepared to reduce casualties and property damage caused by multicultural family members or foreigners who do not know Korean and are unaware of how to use indoor fire hydrants, resulting in failure to suppress fires in the early stages.
With the fire safety standards for indoor fire hydrant equipment newly established on March 4 last year, usage instructions displaying foreign languages and visual illustrations must be attached near the indoor fire hydrant equipment box in an easily visible location, or signs must be attached to both the inside and outside of the fire hydrant box door.
A fire station official stated, “Rapid fire suppression is the most important during a fire,” and added, “We will continue promotional activities to prevent situations where fire facilities cannot be used due to language barriers.”
