Seoul City Provides Basic Farming Skills Education Necessary for Rural Life

Recruiting 370 Students

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Seoul Agricultural Technology Center announced on the 21st that it will operate customized free training courses for Seoul citizens preparing for 'rural life' and 'agricultural start-ups.'


A total of 370 Seoul citizens will participate in three courses: ▲Rural Life Education ▲Basic Farming Technology Education (Comprehensive Class) ▲Basic Farming Technology Education (Practical Class), all of which are free of charge.

The training is divided into 250 participants in the first half from March to June and 120 participants in the second half from August to October, allowing citizens to join the courses when they need them.


'Rural Life Education' is an introductory agricultural course for citizens preparing for rural life, consisting of a total of 5 days (3 days theory, 2 days practice) covering understanding of eco-friendly agriculture, theory on field crops, special crops, and vegetable gardening, as well as the use of small agricultural machinery and cultivation practice.


In the first half, a total of 5 sessions will be held with 40 participants per session. Citizens wishing to participate in sessions 1 to 3 can apply from 11 a.m. on the day via the Seoul Agricultural Technology Center website. Applications for sessions 4 and 5 will be accepted from April 18.


The 'Basic Farming Technology Course' for prospective farmers who wish to start agricultural businesses is divided into 'Comprehensive Class' and 'Practical Class.'


The 'Comprehensive Class' covers basic cultivation technology theory, crop cultivation practice, and field visits to excellent farms, providing an overview of agriculture. The course runs for a total of 12 days (non-consecutive) from March to May. Among those who complete the comprehensive class, trainees wishing to engage in in-depth practice can participate in the practical class held every Friday for 11 sessions from April to June.


Applications for the 'Basic Farming Technology Course' can also be made from 11 a.m. on the day via the Seoul Agricultural Technology Center website.

Jangtae Cho, Director of the Seoul Agricultural Technology Center, said, “We plan to operate a detailed program from the basics to practical courses for prospective farmers targeting citizens who wish to live in rural areas as well as start agricultural businesses.” He added, “We will expand practical training that can be utilized in actual rural life and agricultural start-ups.”
