[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] The police have launched an investigation into the 'chat scam' suffered by Kwon Mina, formerly of the group AOA.

On the 21st, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul announced that they had received Kwon's complaint and started an investigation related to the chat scam. It is reported that Kwon Mina suffered damages amounting to approximately 15 million won.

Kwon is known to have started a chat part-time job for remote work and then fell victim to this scam. The scammer told her that if she received 'gifts' in the form of points, they could be converted into cash, but the company required her to upgrade her membership level to exchange the points, demanding a deposit of 1 million won. Kwon deposited 15 million won over six installments.

The company threatened Kwon by using photos of some parts of her body that she had sent as leverage. Furthermore, upon learning that Kwon was a member of an idol group, they demanded photos of other members as well.

A police official stated, "We will also investigate whether there are other victims."
