Implementation at the Ministry of Education's Digital Education Planning Office

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Government Complex Management Headquarters and the Ministry of Education announced on the 21st that they have completed the creation of a flexible seating workspace using laptops at the Ministry of Education's Digital Education Planning Office, which was selected last year as the pilot project for 'Smart Workspace Utilization,' and will begin full-scale operation from February.

Last year, a total of six central administrative agencies applied for the pilot project, and after on-site visits and evaluations by each agency, the 'Ministry of Education Digital Education Planning Office' was selected as the final project target.

The Digital Education Planning Office workspace utilization project is implemented with the goals of ▲horizontal, open, and shared environments, introducing flexible seating office operation using work laptops and horizontal job titles.

The Public Procurement Service's New Technology Service Bureau, which was first implemented last year, conducted a flexible seating system based on desktop computers and operated a horizontal layout, resulting in high employee satisfaction.

Based on satisfaction survey results, the Government Complex Management Headquarters recognizes that office space is not merely a place to work but a significant factor influencing organizational culture and work performance. Accordingly, they plan to gradually expand the project to agencies wishing for spatial innovation in the future.

Shim Mincheol, Director of the Ministry of Education Digital Education Planning Office, stated, “Changes in the workspace can lead to innovations in working methods,” adding, “We will strengthen communication and collaboration between departments in the new space to improve work efficiency and foster diverse and creative ideas and outcomes in a more horizontal atmosphere.”

Jo Soyeon, Director of the Government Complex Management Headquarters, emphasized, “Along with the advancement of digital technology, the configuration and operation of future-oriented workspaces are essential for generating creative problem-solving abilities and collaboration skills,” and said, “These changes in government complex workspaces are key requirements for realizing an open government that works well.”
