Landscape Architecture 'Mist Garden' Wins Award in Space and Architecture
Only Construction Company to Achieve 3 Consecutive Years of Awards
[Asia Economy Reporter Noh Kyung-jo] The 'Dongnae Raemian I-Park' in Busan, constructed by Samsung C&T Corporation's construction division, has won the 2023 Asia Design Prize. With this, Samsung C&T is the only domestic construction company to have its name on the Asia Design Prize for three consecutive years.
Samsung C&T announced on the 20th that the 'Mist Garden,' a landscaping facility of the Dongnae Raemian I-Park completed in 2021, was selected as a winner in the space and architecture category at the Asia Design Prize.
The Asia Design Prize is an international design competition established in 2016. A panel of 38 international design experts selects winners in three categories: industrial design, space and architecture, and communication. This year, 154 works were selected out of 1,051 entries from 22 countries worldwide.
The Mist Garden at Dongnae Raemian I-Park is a spiral-shaped resting facility located at the center of the complex, which modernly reinterprets the hot springs symbol of the Oncheonjang area in Busan. The greenery on the roof top offers a landscape like a green carpet amid the dry urban environment. Samsung C&T explained that sedum species, which are easy to maintain, were planted, and the green area was lightened and drainage facilities installed to prevent deformation of the roof shape due to load.
Additionally, a continuous installation of 'ㄷ-shaped' frames creates an entrance landscape, and a cool mist system is installed inside the frames. The mist spray lowers the surrounding air temperature and reduces fine dust. It has been evaluated as an eco-friendly resting facility that not only provides a resting space but also regulates the climate within the complex.
Last year, Dongnae Raemian I-Park also won the Asia Design Prize with 'Geumjeong Landscape Garden,' designed and constructed by Samsung C&T. With this year's Mist Garden, it has produced winning works for two consecutive years. Previously, in 2021, the pilotis garden of 'Raemian Leaders One' located in Seocho-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, won the Grand Prize at the Asia Design Prize.
A Samsung C&T official said, "We thank the association and residents who actively accepted various landscaping concept proposals, and we will continue to develop and present diverse landscaping products."
