Jung Hyun-sik, Chairman of the Franchise Association, stated on the 17th, “We aim to improve the unreasonable legal system in the industry and establish a growth infrastructure to lay the foundation for the franchise industry's resurgence and growth.”
On the same day, Chairman Jung held the ‘8th Korea Franchise Industry Association Chairman Inauguration Press Conference’ at the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, where he made these remarks.
He said, “The franchise industry has greatly contributed to the nation and the national economy by preventing the collapse of the self-employed ecosystem even during the spread of COVID-19. However, there are still factors hindering healthy growth. At this moment, after a long period of hardship, as we prepare for a full-scale resurgence, I will strongly promote key tasks to establish the foundation for this resurgence during my term.”
He then listed the association’s core tasks during his term as ▲ establishing a franchise industry classification ▲ proposing amendments to the Franchise Business Act, including improving the obligation to provide estimated sales statements ▲ launching a comprehensive franchise support platform.
Chairman Jung explained, “Although the franchise industry has its own unique business form, it is not classified as an independent industry but is grouped under distribution services or scattered across food service, wholesale and retail, education services, etc. To raise the status of our industry and to enable the establishment of government support policies based on statistics and surveys, our industry must be officially and fully classified as an independent industry.”
He continued, “During the COVID-19 pandemic, without statistics and surveys specifically targeting franchises, the industry was included in small business and SME surveys and suffered reverse discrimination in various sales-based support policies. Therefore, I intend to achieve independence in the standard industry classification within my term.”
He also said, “Going forward, we will actively push for amendments to various laws and systems that do not meet international standards and identify and propose revisions or abolitions of chronic toxic provisions. Next month, we will officially launch the comprehensive franchise support platform to establish a centennial plan for the franchise industry.” The platform will provide access to franchise industry-related information and enable business matching by sector.
Meanwhile, the press conference was attended by Chairman Jung, Lim Young-seo, Chairman of the Association’s Communication Committee, Kang Seok-woo, Executive Vice Chairman of the Association, and about 50 association-affiliated reporters.
