"Reaffirmation of Sanctions Against Russia and Support for Ukraine"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Yoshimasa Hayashi, Japan's Foreign Minister, announced on the 16th that he will invite Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine's Foreign Minister, to the Group of Seven (G7) Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in Germany on the 18th, according to local media reports.
On the same day, Foreign Minister Hayashi met with reporters at the Tokyo Ministry of Foreign Affairs and said regarding the one-year anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, "I want to reaffirm the G7's commitment to upholding the international order based on the rule of law."
The first in-person G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting of this year will be held from the 17th to the 19th in Munich, Germany, coinciding with the Munich Security Conference. The G7 Foreign Ministers are expected to reaffirm sanctions against Russia and support for Ukraine during this meeting.
Foreign Minister Hayashi, attending the Munich Security Conference, is strongly coordinating plans to hold a bilateral meeting with Park Jin, South Korea's Foreign Minister, on the 18th to discuss major issues between Korea and Japan, including the compensation for forced labor.
