The Entire Section from Dong-eup to Bonggang in Changwon Has Been Opened

Reduced Operation Distance by 2km, Ensuring Local Residents' Safety

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The road construction between Dong-eup and Bonggang in Uichang-gu, Changwon City, Gyeongnam, one of the long-awaited projects of Changwon citizens, was completed on the 15th.

Gyeongsangnam-do announced that it held a completion ceremony on the afternoon of the day above Yongjam Intersection in front of Dong-eup Community Center and opened the entire road section.

About 300 local residents attended the completion ceremony, including Governor Park Wan-su, the head of the Korea Senior Citizens Association Dong-eup branch, the chairman of the village chiefs' council, and the chairman of the residents' autonomy committee.

According to the province, the local road between Dong-eup and Bonggang is a 10.1 km four-lane road connecting Yongjam-ri in Dong-eup, Uichang-gu, Changwon to Bonggang-ri.

A total project budget of 217.3 billion KRW was invested, and construction began in August 2008 and was completed on this day.

Dong-eup is an area where traffic congestion frequently occurs due to tourist visits because of Junam Reservoir, known as a representative ecological and cultural exploration course in Changwon.

The road was narrow, increasing the risk of traffic accidents for residents, making road improvement urgent.

The province expects that with this road opening, the travel distance, which was 12 km, will be reduced to 10 km, and accessibility to Changnyeong and Miryang areas will be greatly improved.

It is also expected to secure the safety of village residents living around the road by dispersing the existing traffic volume.

Following this road opening, the road between Changwon Bonggang and Miryang Muan will be opened sequentially in 2025, and the roads between Miryang Muan and Sinbeop and Sinbeop and Dongsan will be opened in 2028, completing the north-south road axis of central Gyeongnam.

Governor Park said, “It took nearly 15 years due to access roads and compensation issues, but it was safely opened,” and added, “I hope this road opening will be an opportunity for things that could not be done in the Dong-eup area to proceed smoothly and further hope that Changwon Special City will develop more.”
