Changing the Design of Changgyeonggung Palace Admission Tickets for the First Time in 20 Years

New Admission Ticket Photo Decided by Online Voting

'Donggwoldo (東闕圖)' is a work depicting palaces from the late Joseon Dynasty. Using bird's-eye view and parallel diagonal composition, it captures Changdeokgung and Changgyeonggung Palaces as well as surrounding trees and stones all at once. Recognized for its artistic and historical value, it was designated as a National Treasure in 1989 (held by Korea University) and 1995 (held by Dong-A University), respectively.

The Changgyeonggung Palace in the painting has been used on admission tickets to the site for over 20 years. The Cultural Heritage Administration’s Office of Palaces and Royal Tombs will change the design this April. The photo candidates include six shots taken inside Changgyeonggung: Myeongjeongjeon Hall, Yanghwadang, Haminjeong, and the Grand Greenhouse. An online vote will decide which photo will be used on the new admission tickets. Park Young-hwan, Secretary of the Changgyeonggung Management Office, explained, "During the Japanese colonial period, 'Changgyeongwon' was developed as a recreational park, but it was restored to 'Changgyeonggung' in 1983. We are changing the design to commemorate the 40th anniversary." Voting is open until the 16th of next month on the On-Gukmin Communication and National Ideas platforms.
