[Wando=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Shin Woo-cheol) received the Grand Prize in the ‘2022 Local Tax Collection Rate Improvement Evaluation’ hosted by Jeollanam-do, securing a prize money of 50 million KRW.
According to the county on the 16th, after receiving the Grand Prize for three consecutive years in the ‘2022 Local Tax Arrears Collection Evaluation’ targeting 22 cities and counties in Jeonnam, Wando-gun also won the Grand Prize in the recent ‘2022 Local Tax Collection Rate Improvement Evaluation’.
The ‘Local Tax Collection Rate Improvement Evaluation’ comprehensively assesses the performance in three areas?collection rate, increase in collection rate compared to the previous year, and collection scale?across 22 cities and counties in Jeonnam.
Wando-gun earned a total score of 88 points and received the Grand Prize.
To improve the local tax collection rate, the county frequently visited towns and townships to actively conduct on-site collection activities such as pre-announcement of license plate seizure for delinquent vehicles, which early resolved delinquent automobile taxes accounting for 45.5% of the total arrears, earning high marks.
Additionally, to enhance the collection rate within the payment deadline, separate local tax payment notices were sent to raise awareness of tax payment, and for delinquent taxpayers facing economic difficulties, installment payments were encouraged to pay a fixed amount monthly, thereby striving to improve the local tax collection rate.
Along with this, through the ‘Local Tax Collection Countermeasure Report Meeting,’ the county checked the progress of collection activities in towns and townships, discussed issues and countermeasures, and held capacity-building training sessions for tax administration officials regularly, sharing advanced collection techniques and expressing a strong will to collect delinquent taxes, which was also reflected in the evaluation score.
Kim Hee-soo, head of the Tax Accounting Division, said, “This award is the result of tailored collection administrative efforts by related officials and the cooperation of residents who faithfully paid taxes despite the difficult economic environment caused by COVID-19.”
He added, “We will continue to promote trustworthy tax administration for residents and actively respond to the expansion of the poor local finances by discovering various taxpayer convenience policies.”
Meanwhile, the county plans to use the prize money secured from winning the Grand Prize for expenses necessary for local tax collection activities, such as purchasing a real-time delinquent vehicle seizure system.
