Kim Ki-hyun "I Expect Conscience Within the Democratic Party on the Arrest Motion for Lee Jae-myung"

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the 16th, as the prosecution filed an arrest warrant for Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, Kim Ki-hyun, the candidate for the People Power Party leadership, raised his voice regarding the consent for arrest motion, saying, "We expect the conscience within the Democratic Party."

Members of the National Assembly who have immunity from arrest can only be detained if the consent for arrest motion passes in the National Assembly.

On the 16th, Kim posted on his social media service (SNS), "The public will watch coldly whether, once again, they will boldly engage in 'Lee Jae-myung shielding' by leveraging the absolute majority seats in the National Assembly," expressing his opinion.

He said, "In a liberal democratic rule-of-law state, there are no exceptions to 'equality before the law.' Even powerful figures of a major political party cannot escape paying the price for the crimes they have committed," raising his voice.

Kim added, "So far, the Democratic Party has made desperate efforts to shield Lee by recklessly playing cards to divert the public's attention from his criminal charges and arrest. They have freely utilized the power of the majority seats in the legislature," and continued, "I do not believe the Democratic Party will degrade the National Assembly into a den of criminals or tarnish the long history of the party for the sake of their top leader. We expect the common sense and conscience of fellow lawmakers quietly holding their breath within the Democratic Party."
