Major Air Pollutant Emission Sites in Daejeon Show 65.4% Reduction in Pollutants

[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The amount of air pollutants emitted from major industrial sites in Daejeon has decreased by 65.4% over the past five years. This is analyzed as a visible result of the fine dust reduction agreements made between Daejeon City and each industrial site.

On the 15th, the city announced that an analysis of the implementation status of the 'Voluntary Reduction Agreement for Fine Dust Reduction' sites confirmed that the amount of air pollutant emissions from the sites decreased from 967 tons in 2018 to 337.6 tons in 2022, a reduction of 638.34 tons.

Previously, the city signed reduction agreements in 2019 with the top 14 industrial sites in the area that emit large amounts of air pollutants. The core of the agreement was to reduce air pollutant emissions by more than 15% by 2022 compared to 2018.

The industrial sites participating in the agreement at that time included ▲ Daejeon Urban Corporation Environment Energy Division ▲ Daejeon Combined Heat and Power Co., Ltd. ▲ Daejeon Environmental Energy Complex ▲ Dongyang Environment Co., Ltd. ▲ Aluco Co., Ltd. 2nd Plant ▲ Aekyung Chemical Co., Ltd. Daejeon Plant ▲ Jin Hap Co., Ltd. ▲ Jeil Feed Co., Ltd. ▲ KT&G Sintanjin Plant ▲ Korea & Company Co., Ltd. Daejeon Plant ▲ Hankook Tire & Technology Co., Ltd. Daejeon Plant ▲ Hansol Paper Co., Ltd. Daejeon Plant ▲ Hanwha Defense Co., Ltd. Daejeon Plant.

These sites voluntarily participated in reducing pollutants by investing in environmental improvements to enhance the efficiency of air pollution prevention facilities following the agreement.

They focused on reducing pollutant emissions by investing a total of 70.8 billion KRW in facilities to reduce air pollutants, such as low-NOx boilers, dust collection facilities, and major repairs of incinerators.

In particular, Daejeon Combined Heat and Power Co., Ltd. reduced pollutant emissions by 289.93 tons compared to 2018 through expansions such as LPG storage tanks.

Also, Hankook Tire & Technology Co., Ltd. Daejeon Plant worked on reducing pollutant emissions by improving combustion facilities, repairing dust collection facilities, enhancing activated dust collectors, and installing new Sejong dust collectors.

A city official said, “As a result of the industrial sites that signed the agreement actively investing in environmental improvements, it has been confirmed that pollutant emissions have been significantly reduced. The city will continue to strengthen cooperation with industrial sites to continuously reduce pollutant emissions in the region.”
