Gangwon Provincial Assembly Member Park Ki-young Urges Executive Branch to Devise Countermeasures
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] In the future, snow removal work on sidewalks and side roads around government offices in Gangwon Province is expected to be handled by the respective government offices.
Park Ki-young, a member of the Gangwon Provincial Council (Chairman of the Safety and Construction Committee), stated at the 316th extraordinary session of the Gangwon Provincial Council held on the 13th, "Government offices should carry out snow removal not only inside the office buildings but also on the surrounding sidewalks and side roads," urging the province to prepare countermeasures.
Park said, "In the past three years, there have been a total of 131 ice-related injury accidents in Gangwon Province, increasing every year," and pointed out, "According to Article 27 of the Natural Disaster Countermeasures Act, snow removal on side roads should be carried out by the building owner (occupant) or manager, but currently, it is only done on the entrances within the office buildings."
In response, the Gangwon Provincial Disaster Safety Office stated, "We will coordinate with the office management departments to thoroughly implement snow and ice removal around government offices, sidewalks, and side roads in Gangwon Province and its 18 cities and counties, and prepare and promote countermeasures accordingly."
The province also plans to strengthen administrative guidance to ensure prompt snow and ice removal around private buildings.
