Resolution Adopted... Over 300 Attendees Express Support
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] The Mokpo National University Alumni Association (President Jeon Jin-woo) adopted a resolution by 70,000 Mokpo National University affiliates urging the establishment of the Mokpo National University College of Medicine and its affiliated hospital at the inauguration and launch ceremony of the 29th president on the 14th, with about 300 alumni and local figures attending to express their support.

Jeon Jin-woo, the 29th president of the Alumni Association, emphasized in his inaugural speech, “Jeonnam is the only local government without a College of Medicine and an affiliated hospital, which is another form of regional discrimination.”
He continued, “We must resolve the medical gap and achieve balanced regional development by establishing the Mokpo National University College of Medicine and its affiliated hospital, a long-standing wish of Jeonnam for 30 years,” and declared, “All 70,000 Mokpo National University affiliates will unite with local governments and civil society to devote themselves to activities for the establishment of the College of Medicine.”
Following this, Mokpo National University President Song Ha-cheol, National Assembly member Kim Won-i, Superintendent of Education Kim Dae-jung, Mokpo Mayor Park Hong-ryul, and Muan County Governor Kim San conducted a performance urging the establishment of the Mokpo National University College of Medicine and university hospital.
National Assembly member Kim Won-i asserted, “When increasing the quota for medical schools, the establishment of medical schools in the Jeonnam region and Mokpo National University must be reflected,” and reported, “I received a positive response from the Minister of Health and Welfare.”
Superintendent of Education Kim Dae-jung emphasized, “We must attract a College of Medicine, the aspiration of 2 million provincial residents, to create a groundbreaking turning point for regional development.”
Mokpo Mayor Park Hong-ryul stressed, “This is a critical time when the realization of attracting a medical school is possible, and local residents must unite their strength.”
Muan County Governor Kim San stated, “I deeply recognize the necessity of a College of Medicine and its affiliated hospital,” and “I will actively cooperate in attracting the medical school.”
Shinan County Governor Park Woo-ryang promised through a video message, “I will actively work to attract a medical school, which is a long-standing wish of island residents.”
All attendees emphasized, “The establishment of the Mokpo National University College of Medicine is an urgent regional issue whose necessity and economic feasibility have both been verified, and it must serve as a momentum for balanced regional development in preparation for the population cliff and local extinction.”
