Suncheon City Officials and Organizing Committee Members Lead by Example
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Heo Seonsik] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) plans to implement a vehicle restriction system based on odd and even days to ensure the successful hosting of the 2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo.
The city stated that the number of registered vehicles has increased from 100,000 to 160,000 compared to 10 years ago, and traffic congestion is expected during the expo period. To resolve this, they plan to promote a voluntary vehicle restriction campaign involving all citizens.
The vehicle restriction system allows vehicles with odd-numbered license plates to operate on odd-numbered days, and vehicles with even-numbered license plates to operate on even-numbered days.
To establish this system, starting from the 20th, Suncheon City Hall officials and expo organizing committee members will take the lead in participating in the vehicle restriction system, and will also encourage participation from public institutions and related organizations.
During the Garden Expo period (April 1 to October 31), the city plans to conduct public awareness campaigns and promote voluntary participation in the vehicle restriction system among citizens.
A Suncheon city official said, “By implementing this vehicle restriction system, we expect to reduce traffic volume in the downtown area, create a pleasant traffic environment, decrease carbon emissions and fine dust, and transform the city into an advanced transportation city.”
