'20-Year-Old Man Arrested for Kidnapping and Confining Ex-Lover... Accomplice Not Detained'

On the 14th, Judge Kim Jungmin, in charge of warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, issued an arrest warrant after conducting a pre-arrest detention hearing for the man in his 20s, Mr. Kim, the previous day, citing concerns that he might flee.

Regarding Mr. Lee, a friend who provided a car and assisted in the crime, the arrest warrant was dismissed due to disputes over his involvement in the offense.

The Seoul Gwanak Police Station applied for arrest warrants on the 12th for Mr. Kim and Mr. Lee on charges of joint detention under the Act on Punishment of Violent Crimes. The two are accused of going to the home of Mr. Kim’s ex-girlfriend, Ms. A, in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, around 1:50 a.m. on the 12th and kidnapping her, then confining her in a car.

Additional charges against Mr. Kim include damaging public property, as he allegedly cut off the emergency call smart watch that Ms. A had received from the police after reporting him for dating violence on the 10th.

Meanwhile, during the police investigation, both Mr. Kim and Ms. A stated that they had used methamphetamine earlier this month. Preliminary tests showed positive results for both, and the police are conducting a separate investigation into drug-related offenses apart from the detention case.
