Korea Venture Investment "Establishing Private Fund of Funds... Advancing as a Global Venture Investment Institution"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Korea Venture Investment announced its intention to promote the establishment of private mother funds this year and invest in future industries to leap forward as a global venture investment institution.

On the 14th, Woo Woong-hwan, CEO of Korea Venture Investment, held a press conference at the Grand Intercontinental Orchid in Seoul to share the '4 Core Missions' and presented directions for creating a sustainable venture investment ecosystem.

The 4 core missions are ▲advancement of mother fund management ▲activation of private mother funds ▲globalization of the venture investment ecosystem ▲transparent management and ESG (environment, social, governance).

Korea Venture Investment, which will manage a mother fund worth about 680 billion KRW this year, plans to achieve advancement in mother fund management by utilizing data. It will establish processes to operate capital contribution planning, investment deal sourcing, operator selection, and post-management of sub-funds transparently and efficiently.

In particular, it plans to create private equity funds that invest in secondary venture funds to ensure new capital inflows into the venture fund recovery market.

This year, the focus will be on establishing private mother funds to invest in future industries. CEO Woo stated, "We have newly established a private mother fund task force team to attract domestic and international private venture capital," adding, "We are working to attract potential investors interested in venture fund contributions such as pension funds, banks, and large corporations." The sectors for private mother fund contributions include ▲root industries ▲super-gap industries ▲new growth industries.

Based on experience in managing mother funds, the goal is to leap forward as a global venture investment institution. Currently, the global funds contributed by Korea Venture Investment amount to about 8 trillion KRW, and it plans to continuously expand the scale by strengthening global networking. To this end, a new European office will be opened in the first half of this year.

In Europe, four funds worth about 1.1 trillion KRW have already been established. Through the European office, cooperation with European countries will be strengthened, and excellent venture capital (VC) will be discovered and joint funds created to increase Korean companies' entry into Europe.

Finally, it will improve institutional structure through transparent management. It explained that it will manage mother fund operational risks and lead the spread of ESG in the venture investment ecosystem.

CEO Woo said, "The mother fund is a successful venture investment platform that creates jobs, realizes social value, and achieves stable financial performance," and added, "Through the execution of the 4 core missions, Korea Venture Investment will take the lead in creating a sustainable venture investment ecosystem."
