Over 2,000 Basic Livelihood Security Recipients and Single-Parent Families
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Wook] Miryang City in Gyeongnam Province will provide emergency heating cost support of 50,000 won each to vulnerable groups suffering from the double hardship of continuous cold waves and soaring heating costs.
This emergency heating cost support is a special city-level support measure for vulnerable groups. It is a prompt decision made by the city in line with the government's expansion of energy voucher support and Gyeongnam Province's heating cost support.
The city plans to use 100 million won from the disaster management fund to provide 50,000 won per household in early March to about 1,750 basic livelihood security recipients and about 250 low-income single-parent families who do not receive support from the government or Gyeongnam Province, without separate application, through their existing welfare benefit accounts.
With this support, all basic livelihood security recipients and low-income single-parent families in the jurisdiction will receive heating cost support, which is expected to somewhat alleviate the burden on vulnerable groups facing difficulties in making a living.
Mayor Park Il-ho said, “After going through a difficult time due to COVID-19, the unprecedented cold wave and heating cost increases have intensified the difficulties of vulnerable groups. I hope this emergency heating cost support will help with their livelihoods. We will create a happy Miryang City without marginalized groups through thorough and substantial welfare support.”
