On the 13th at 10 AM at City Hall, City, Korea Communications Agency, and Dong-gu
Establishment of KCA Digital Innovation Academy Dong-gu Campus, Scheduled to Open in May
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] On the 13th at 10 a.m., Busan City will sign a 'Business Agreement for Digital Talent Development and Regional Development' with the Korea Communications Agency (hereinafter KCA) and Dong-gu, Busan, at the International Protocol Room on the 7th floor of City Hall.
Attending today's signing ceremony are the signatories: Mayor Park Hyung-jun, KCA President Jeong Han-geun, Dong-gu Mayor Kim Jin-hong, as well as Kim Kwang-myeong, Chair of the City Council Planning and Finance Committee, and Jeong Moon-seop, Director of the Busan Information Industry Promotion Agency.
This business agreement was prepared to share the recognition of the need for job creation in new industry sectors and regional community development, and to cooperate in digital talent development and regional development by utilizing the capabilities and infrastructure of each institution.
The detailed contents include ▲ Busan City overseeing the Busan Digital Innovation Academy project and establishing an education center within the KCA Busan headquarters ▲ KCA planning and operating talent development cooperation projects and providing space within the KCA Busan headquarters ▲ Dong-gu, Busan actively cooperating by supporting promotion of the Busan Digital Innovation Academy and maintaining the environment near the education center.
In particular, KCA is constructing the 'Busan Digital Innovation Academy Dong-gu Campus' on the 3rd floor of the KCA Busan headquarters, with an area of 547.26㎡ capable of educating 110 people simultaneously. It will include three classrooms (two 40-person rooms, one 30-person room), project rooms, rest areas, and office spaces, scheduled to open in May.
The 'Busan Digital Innovation Academy (BDIA)' is a recruitment-linked education project promoted by Busan City to cultivate high-level personnel in the information and communication technology field and to prevent the outflow of talent outside the region.
Due to the recent surge in software (SW) workforce demand driven by accelerated digital transformation, education is provided to job seekers in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions, aiming to cultivate 10,000 specialized professionals in new industry technologies (artificial intelligence, cloud, big data, etc.) over five years from 2022 to 2026.
Launched as a pilot project in 2021, a total of 373 people were trained, with 239 successfully employed (employment rate 64.1%). In 2022, 1,358 people were trained, and the target for 2023 is 2,170 people.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun stated, “Securing digital talent is the competitiveness of companies, and since companies and capital gather where talent exists, talent development has now become the competitiveness of cities. The Dong-gu Campus, to be established through cooperation with the Communications Agency, will serve as an outpost for digital talent development. It is highly meaningful that the education centers, which had been mainly established in the eastern Busan area, are now expanding to the original downtown area through this agreement. We ask for more interest and cooperation in the 'Busan Digital Innovation Academy,' a representative brand for cultivating digital talent, so that young people can realize their dreams in Busan.”
