[Asia Economy Reporter Byeon Seon-jin] The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced on the 13th that among the 184 entrants who arrived from China the previous day and were immediately tested at the airport, none tested positive for COVID-19.

The positivity rate among short-term foreign visitors from China has maintained an average of 1% per day since the last week of January. The daily positivity rate hitting 0% was recorded for the second time, following the 4th of this month. The government, observing a significant recent decline in the number of confirmed cases from China, resumed issuing short-term visas for entrants from China on the 11th after a 40-day suspension.

The health authorities expect that even with the resumption of short-term visa issuance, the number of confirmed cases from China will not increase significantly. This is because the mandatory COVID-19 testing before and after entry and the suspension of additional flights remain in effect until the end of this month.

Since the strengthening of quarantine measures for entrants from China on the 2nd of last month, a total of 62,365 people have entered the country through airports from China. The cumulative positivity rate for airport tests among short-term visitors stands at 7.0% (799 confirmed cases out of 11,339 tested).
