Gochang-gun Provides 'Special Heating Cost Support Fund'... 200,000 KRW Per Household

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk Province, will provide 200,000 KRW per household to reduce the heating cost burden on residents.

On the 13th, the county decided to support residents struggling with soaring heating costs such as electricity and gas bills amid the recent cold wave by providing the ‘4th Disaster Basic Income - Special Heating Cost Support Fund.’

With a total budget of 5.7 billion KRW from provincial and county funds, 28,657 households as of the 31st of last month will each receive 200,000 KRW.

The county plans to use contingency funds to distribute the support next month via prepaid cards. The cards can be used immediately upon receipt and are valid throughout Gochang-gun except at entertainment establishments.

Initially, provincial support was limited to vulnerable groups. However, considering the difficulties faced by the entire region, the county significantly increased its budget to provide support to all households.

Earlier, in July last year, immediately after the launch of the 8th local government, Gochang County Governor Shim Deokseop decided on the ‘3rd Disaster Basic Income Payment’ as his first official approval, striving to revive the local economy affected by COVID-19.

The county expects that this ‘4th Disaster Basic Income’ will also greatly help alleviate the economic burden on residents suffering from the unprecedented cold wave and rising public utility costs, as well as revitalize the local economy.

Governor Shim Deokseop said, “Without any chance for economic recovery from COVID-19, global high inflation, high interest rates, and soaring public utility costs are further increasing the difficulties for our residents. I hope this disaster support fund will provide some relief to those facing these dual hardships.”

He added, “We will continue to do our best to make Gochang-gun a vibrant and happy place for all residents.”
