Baekdabang, operated by The Born Korea, announced on the 13th that it has been accelerating preparations for the early adoption of Apple Pay, targeting from the second half of last year through the first quarter of this year.
Apple Pay is Apple’s convenient payment service, which allows payments at offline stores in Korea simply by holding an iPhone near the card terminal. In October last year, Apple partnered with the first official operator of Apple Pay services in Korea to prepare for the launch of Apple Pay in the country.
Baekdabang was previously recognized for its brand value by the first official operator of the domestic Apple Pay service and was selected as a priority adopter, completing payment tests. It is currently working on POS (Point of Sale) program development, payment testing, and replacing unmanned terminal (kiosk) readers necessary for Apple Pay implementation. Baekdabang’s POS devices can use Apple Pay without separate replacement.
As Baekdabang was selected as a priority adopter by the first official operator, it plans to fully support the cost of replacing unmanned terminal readers necessary for the early adoption of the Apple Pay payment system, limited to existing stores. Apple Pay is expected to be introduced early in Baekdabang stores as soon as the first quarter of this year.
Meanwhile, Baekdabang quickly launched a mobile app at the beginning of 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic started, enabling menu guidance, ordering, payment, and stamp accumulation all at once. Baekdabang’s membership system played a significant role in enhancing customer convenience by offering a ‘Pickup Order’ system that allows convenient mobile ordering and drink pickup in stores without waiting, as well as a ‘Stamp Accumulation Function.’
