NongHyup Provides $400,000 Relief Fund to Rural Areas Affected by Turkey Earthquake

Lee Seong-hee, President of NongHyup Central Association, "Hope for a Quick Return to Daily Life"

[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Joo Sang-don] The National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (NACF) announced on the 13th that it will raise and deliver an emergency relief fund of $400,000 from the entire NACF to support relief activities for disaster victims and rural area recovery in the regions of T?rkiye and Syria affected by the earthquake.

The International Cooperative Agricultural Organization (ICAO), chaired by Lee Sung-hee, chairman of Korea's NACF, includes the T?rkiye Forest Cooperatives Union (OR-KOOP) and the Agricultural Credit Cooperatives Union (ACC) as member organizations. Currently, these unions have 4,065 member cooperatives and 1.4 million members across T?rkiye.

Accordingly, NACF plans to provide relief funds through local cooperatives and international relief organizations to help the cooperatives, members, and farmers in T?rkiye recover from the damage as quickly as possible through cooperation among cooperatives.

Lee Sung-hee, chairman of NACF, said, "We express our deepest condolences to the people of T?rkiye who have lost their families and homes and are suffering due to the sudden earthquake damage. Especially, we decided on this support with the hope that the farmers in T?rkiye, who are going through difficult times, can return to their daily lives as soon as possible."

Previously, NACF has actively engaged in solidarity with overseas cooperatives by participating in recovery efforts for the Sichuan earthquake in China, the Great East Japan Earthquake, the Nepal earthquake, and relief for Ukrainian refugees, practicing "cooperation among cooperatives."
