[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) is providing comprehensive support totaling 3.633 billion KRW, including 1.977 billion KRW of its own funds alongside government and Seoul city support, to overcome the heating cost crisis.
Along with emergency heating cost support for vulnerable groups, childcare facilities, and social welfare facilities, the district is also actively supporting small leased business owners pushed to the brink by soaring energy costs amid high inflation and interest rates.
To alleviate the operational cost burden and help overcome the crisis for small leased business owners, the district has decided to provide special heating cost support worth 1.49 billion KRW to approximately 14,900 local small businesses, accepting applications from February 20 to April 14.
Eligible applicants are small business owners with annual sales under 200 million KRW who registered their business in Seongbuk-gu before December 31, 2022, and are currently leasing or operating as of the announcement date on February 9.
Applications can be submitted online or in person. Online applications are accepted from February 20 to April 14 via the Seongbuk-gu Office website. In-person applications are accepted from March 20 to April 14 at the Small Business Heating Cost Support Reception Desk in the Regional Economy Division of Seongbuk-gu Office. Due to expected high demand, online applications during the first week (February 20?24) will follow a five-day rotation system based on the last digit of the business registration number. From February 25 onward, all applicants may apply. However, businesses such as entertainment establishments, non-profit corporations, closed or suspended businesses, e-commerce businesses without actual separate operations, and those restricted from receiving small business development fund loans are excluded from support.
Applicants must submit the application form along with supporting documents such as business registration certificate, commercial lease contract, and value-added tax standard proof. After document verification, the support amount of 100,000 KRW will be paid within 10 days of application to the business owner’s mobile phone as a mobile Seongbuk Love Gift Certificate.
Mayor Lee Seung-ro stated, “Due to unprecedented cold waves and soaring heating costs, local small business owners are facing increasing difficulties in operations. To provide practical assistance, Seongbuk-gu has urgently allocated 1.49 billion KRW of its own budget and is making multifaceted efforts to support small leased business owners on the brink.”
