A 40-Year-Old Man Forced Drug Administration and Attempted Sexual Assault on Mother-in-Law

Daegu District Court Andong Branch Sentences to 12 Years Imprisonment, Detained in Court

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A man in his 40s, who was prosecuted for forcibly administering drugs to his mother-in-law and attempting sexual assault, was detained in court.

The Criminal Division 2 of Andong Branch, Daegu District Court (Chief Judge Lee Min-hyung) announced on the 10th that Mr. A, who was indicted for violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, was sentenced to 12 years in prison and detained in court.

The court also ordered a 7-year restriction on employment at child and youth institutions and completion of a 40-hour sexual violence and drug treatment program.

According to the Daegu District Court, in June of last year, Mr. A administered methamphetamine to himself at the home of his mother-in-law, Ms. B, in Andong City, then forcibly administered methamphetamine to Ms. B and attempted to sexually assault her. Although the attempt failed due to Ms. B’s strong resistance, Mr. A assaulted Ms. B during the process, causing injuries requiring two weeks of medical treatment.

Mr. A is also charged with threatening his wife’s family by claiming, while intoxicated after taking methamphetamine in May of last year, that his wife had videos of sexual relations with another man.

The court stated, “He committed inhumane acts by repeatedly administering drugs to himself and forcibly to his mother-in-law, and by threatening his wife’s family with circulating sexual videos,” and added, “Considering the physical and mental suffering experienced by the victim’s family, a heavy sentence is unavoidable.”
