"Adulterous Husband's Child Born, Wife Passed Away... Why Do I Have to Raise Them?"

"Husband Reported for Refusing to Take Child, Claiming 'Not Biological Father'

Bears Wife's Debt After She Lives with Affair Partner"

A man in his 40s is under police investigation after refusing to take custody of a baby born from his wife's affair, sparking controversy.

According to the Chungbuk Provincial Police Agency on the 9th, on December 28 last year, an obstetrics and gynecology clinic in Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju City, reported to the police that "the baby's father is not taking the newborn," leading to the report against Mr. A, a man in his 40s.

The reason why Mr. A did not take the baby is very tragic.

According to Mr. A, he and his wife are currently undergoing a divorce lawsuit, and his wife died after giving birth to a baby fathered by her lover. Nevertheless, the hospital had no choice but to report Mr. A, the legal husband of the mother, on charges of child abandonment rather than the lover. This was because the divorce process had not been finalized.

This case became known after Mr. A expressed his grievance on an online community on the 8th with a post titled "Is the lover's child also my family?"

Mr. A, who revealed he has three daughters and is in his 40s, stated, "I suddenly found out about my wife's affair after she ran away. She had an affair with a karaoke hostess 10 years younger and even set up a household with her. I took care of three children alone while proceeding with the divorce lawsuit. But a day before the final judgment, my wife died after a cesarean section at the obstetrics clinic."

Since his wife died and the divorce process was not completed, under civil law, Mr. A is the legal father of the newborn. Even after receiving a DNA test result showing 'non-paternity,' the birth registration was still his responsibility.

Mr. A protested, saying, "I knew about my wife's affair after she ran away and we are in the middle of a divorce lawsuit. Even after receiving a DNA test result showing 'non-paternity,' how could I possibly register the birth?"

He added, "My deceased wife had no parents or siblings, and a friend signed the surgical consent form during the cesarean section. I understand that my wife's lover has already fled with money," expressing his frustration.

Following Mr. A's story, the police and Cheongju City began investigating the facts. The city has temporarily placed the child in a victim child shelter and taken protective measures. A city official said, "The birth registration must be done quickly for the government support for this child to be possible. We are persuading Mr. A."

He explained, "Once the birth registration is done, a lawsuit to confirm 'non-existence of paternity' can be filed with the court. If a judgment is made, we can then create the child's family register and raise the child in a care facility."

The police are reportedly reviewing whether to criminally punish Mr. A on charges of child abandonment. Separately, Mr. A claimed that his deceased wife, while living with her lover during the divorce lawsuit, left him with a huge debt.
