GS25 Launches 'Sutbul Barbecue Flavor Sausage' with Extended Consumption Period

GS Retail's convenience store GS25 announced on the 10th that it has launched the third product of its private brand (PB) sausage line, ‘Yukjeuppangpang,’ called the ‘Charcoal Barbecue Flavor Sausage.’


The Charcoal Barbecue Flavor Sausage features a popular ‘sweet and salty’ barbecue taste. It is made using a differentiated manufacturing method, including using coarsely ground meat more than twice as thick as regular sausages, resulting in a product characterized by rich, juicy meat that seems to flow out and a unique firm yet chewy texture. The price is 2,000 won.


The Charcoal Barbecue Flavor Sausage is the first convenience store PB product in the industry to extend its consumption period. Along with the launch of the Charcoal Barbecue Flavor Sausage, GS25 is promoting an initiative to extend the consumption period of the Yukjeuppangpang series by 10 days beyond the existing expiration date.


To extend the consumption period, GS25 partnered with suppliers to complete product safety tests over four months. In particular, the company explained that it focused on enhancing packaging materials and packaging technology, newly introducing specialized vacuum packaging technology that optimally removes the air layer between the sausage and packaging film, thereby securing sufficient safety.


This year, GS25 is concentrating its efforts on innovatively enhancing the competitiveness of convenience store ready-to-eat meals (HMR) and other easy-to-eat products. To this end, it established a new HMR division focusing on developing differentiated products and is also actively supporting its partners in adopting smart HACCP systems, aiming to build a foundation for producing even safer PB products.


Lee Gyu-hyeok, MD of refrigerated ready meals at GS Retail, said, “Thanks to the popularity of the Yukjeuppangpang series, which has sold over 20 million units, we are finally introducing the third lineup, the Charcoal Barbecue Flavor Sausage, after long preparation. We will devote our efforts to continuously presenting differentiated food products that enhance taste and safety by advancing food tech, in response to the growing popularity of convenience store PB products.”
