Most Rescued Survivors in 'Good' Health Condition
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] On the first day of activities, the South Korean emergency relief team supporting the earthquake disaster site in T?rkiye rescued five survivors on the morning of the 9th (local time).
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the emergency relief team operating in the Antakya area of Hatay Province in southeastern T?rkiye rescued a total of five survivors by 11:50 a.m. that day: a man in his mid-70s, a 40-year-old man, a 2-year-old girl, a 35-year-old woman, and a 10-year-old girl.
The health condition of all survivors was confirmed to be mostly without serious issues. The health status of the survivors rescued so far is known to be generally good.
The South Korean emergency relief team, which arrived at Gaziantep International Airport in T?rkiye the previous day, decided to conduct rescue operations in Antakya at the request of the Turkish side and began relief activities from 5 a.m. that day.
Antakya, the area designated for the relief team’s activities, is the capital of Hatay and borders Syria. It has a total area of 858 km² and a population of 218,000. It was directly affected by the recent earthquake, resulting in numerous casualties and damage.
Meanwhile, the South Korean emergency relief team consists of a total of 118 members: 1 from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 49 from the Ministry of National Defense, 62 from the Fire Agency, and 6 from KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency). This is the largest emergency relief team ever dispatched by the South Korean government.
