The 21st Director's Cut Awards will be grandly held for the first time in three years.
On the 9th, the Directors Guild of Korea (DGK) announced that the 21st Director's Cut Awards will take place on the 24th at the Chungmu Art Center in Seoul.
The awards ceremony originated from the first event hosted in 1998 by the young filmmakers' group Director's Cut and was developed into a DGK-hosted event in 2017. Unlike traditional film awards, winners and nominees for categories such as Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best New Director, Vision Award (Independent Film Award), Best Actor and Actress, and New Actor and Actress are selected through votes by Korean film directors. The ceremony is also characterized by its informal and cheerful style.
Since 2022, new categories for Series and International Film Awards have been added to adapt to the rapidly changing video media environment and to reflect the global status of Korean directors.
The Director's Cut Awards were unable to hold in-person ceremonies for three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but this year they are determined to hold a grand event with around 200 directors. Director Bong Man-dae will host the ceremony.
