GS Caltex Provides 10 Billion KRW Support to Energy-Vulnerable Groups

Additional 100 Million Won Sponsorship Through 'Matching Grant'

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seoyoon] GS Caltex has taken steps to support energy-vulnerable groups and promote energy-saving practices to overcome the energy crisis.

On the 9th, GS Caltex announced plans to provide a total of 10 billion KRW in sponsorship funds to the Korea Energy Foundation and others to support heating costs and energy efficiency improvements for low-income households.

GS Caltex will additionally donate 100 million KRW by combining 50 million KRW in heating cost donations voluntarily raised by company executives with a matching grant. A matching grant is a method where the company adds an amount equal to the voluntary donations made by employees.

The sponsorship funds will be used to support heating costs for low-income families as well as supplies and facilities needed for energy efficiency improvements such as windows, doors, insulation, boilers, and lighting.

A GS Caltex official said, “At a time when the cold winter and sharply increased heating costs have made life difficult, the company and executives have come together to provide even a small help to vulnerable groups.”

He added, “The energy crisis we face is not a problem that can be solved quickly, so GS Caltex, as an energy company, will fulfill its social responsibility by continuously expanding social contribution activities for energy-vulnerable groups and projects to save energy and improve efficiency, rather than limiting efforts to a one-time event.”

Meanwhile, last month GS Caltex supported 300 million KRW worth of heating oil to energy-vulnerable groups facing economic difficulties, and employees volunteered to deliver heating oil in Guryong Village, Gangnam-gu, delivering warm energy to neighbors struggling with the cold.

The Jeonbuk and Chungnam branches also conduct annual home repair volunteer activities for vulnerable children in cooperation with the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation. The “Dream Study Room” project, which supports housing environment improvements and energy efficiency for children from multicultural and single-parent families, will continue to expand to provide children with a warm and safe living environment.

In addition, GS Caltex recently ran the “Carbon Diet X On (溫) Map Challenge for the Earth” campaign through its official SNS and internal communication channels to promote energy saving in daily life and contribute to reducing carbon emissions. Participants joined the On (溫) Map Challenge by posting certification photos wearing their own winter gear.
