Using Health Insurance Data for Health Management Coaching
Focused Management of Individual Chronic Diseases...Also Providing Goals
[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] The financial sector and various IT industries are flooding the market with wealth management applications (apps) based on walking. From Cashwalk to Toss and banks, they are attracting users by claiming that you can earn 'money' by walking. However, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance's Anyfit Plus has taken a different route. It focuses on the act of 'walking' itself. It is designed to help users manage their health by walking daily, change their daily habits, and build habits to prevent chronic diseases.
Anyfit Plus seeks differentiation by going beyond a simple walking app to health management. After trying it myself, Anyfit Plus was not just a simple mobile pedometer. When I launched 'Anyfit Plus' in the Yeouido area of Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, a simple information consent screen appeared first. After that, it was similar to other pedometer apps. Upon consenting to provide location information, it started recognizing the movement route and counting steps. The daily step goal was 6,000 steps. By evening, after reaching this number, it provided points as usual.
The differentiation became apparent in the next stage. After consenting to use data from the National Health Insurance Service and completing a survey, I could see my health age, life expectancy, and comprehensive risk at a glance. This is the 'health check' feature that Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance highlights as the core function of Anyfit. It adopts technology developed by the AI Research Institute of Severance Hospital, analyzing 10 years of past health checkup data. Through this, it informs the probability of developing representative Korean diseases such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, dementia, stomach cancer, lung cancer, colorectal cancer, vascular diseases, and cardiovascular diseases over the next 10 years.
Furthermore, it provides a comprehensive risk score calculated including existing diseases. It also offers information on the user's health status compared to peers of the same age and gender for each disease, as well as key factors influencing the risk of those diseases. Users can recognize diseases with a high likelihood of onset and plan their future health management accordingly.
From then on, users can start 'daily care' by setting concrete exercise goals to manage their daily lives. It suggests walking not just for cash rewards but truly for the body. Additionally, various healthy habits are included as goal items. It suggests an appropriate weight compared to the weight recorded in past checkups and sets management goals for drinking, smoking, and blood pressure to help users change their habits. Of course, like ordinary pedometer apps, users can also earn cash-equivalent points by achieving these goals.
There is also a function to focus on managing chronic diseases. Through the concept of cardiovascular age related to hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes, it supports users in managing chronic diseases themselves. Users can directly check their cardiovascular age and select three out of eight lifestyle habits including exercise, weight, and blood pressure to practice, setting a 12-week improvement plan.
User response has increased. Unlike general walking apps that see a temporary increase in usage after launch, the average daily steps have continuously risen every year. According to Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, the average daily steps of users have already exceeded 8,200 steps in 2021, up from 6,800 steps in 2018.
