Issuance of Three Commemorative Coins for Korean National Parks: Seoraksan, Chiaksan, and Wolchulsan

[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jeong] The Bank of Korea announced on the 9th that it plans to issue a set of three commemorative coins featuring "Korea's National Parks" (Seoraksan, Chiaksan, Wolchulsan) to widely promote the beauty of the country's natural environment and the importance of ecological conservation.

This year's commemorative coins will be available for purchase reservations from March 2 to 17, with distribution starting on the 28th of next month. The total issuance is 30,000 coins, with 10,000 coins per design.

Within the issuance range, 90% of the domestic allocation will be reserved through the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation via financial institutions (Woori Bank and NongHyup Bank) and its own online shopping mall. If the number of reservations per set exceeds the domestic allocation, winners will be determined by random drawing.

The overseas allocation (10%) will be reserved through the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation's overseas sales network, and any unsold coins will be added to the domestic allocation.

The selling price for a single coin is 63,000 KRW (face value 50,000 KRW + additional costs such as case 13,000 KRW), and the three-coin set is priced at 186,000 KRW (face value 150,000 KRW + additional costs such as case 36,000 KRW).

The Bank of Korea has been issuing commemorative coins featuring all national parks in Korea as a series annually since 2017.
