[Concall] NCSoft "Researching Chat GPT... Utilizing it in Game Development"

[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Choi] NCSoft is conducting research to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) language models such as Chat GPT in game development.

On the 9th, Hong Won-jun, NCSoft's Chief Financial Officer (CFO), stated during the Q4 earnings conference call, "Our research and development (R&D) team is fully committed to AI research," adding, "We completed experiments with a medium-sized model last year and plan to scale up the model this year."

NCSoft plans to apply AI to game and content creation. Research is underway to extend this to digital humans (virtual humans).

CFO Hong explained, "Our goal is for language models like Chat GPT to create stories and characters and be utilized in interactive games," adding, "We are researching how to combine this with technologies such as 3D character creation and massively multiplayer online games to provide users with a differentiated immersive experience."

Additionally, NCSoft is preparing to enter the Chinese game market. Given that China has recently issued licenses for numerous Korean games, the company expressed optimism about the market.

CFO Hong said, "There was a first wave announcement previously, and we hope there will be a second wave," adding, "Although it is difficult to specify which intellectual property (IP) it concerns, we are continuously preparing internally."
