"SMEs' Carbon Neutral Management Starts with 'Carbon Neutral Level Diagnosis'"

Analysis of Corporate Energy Usage
Providing Customized Carbon Neutrality Solutions

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] The Small and Medium Business Corporation (Chairman Kim Hak-do, hereinafter referred to as SBC) announced on the 9th that it will carry out the '2023 Carbon Neutrality Level Diagnosis' project to enhance the response capabilities of small and medium enterprises to domestic and international climate regulations such as the carbon border tax and to strengthen their global self-sustainability.

Since 2022, the Carbon Neutrality Level Diagnosis, mainly operated in the manufacturing sector, analyzes energy usage status by process to derive energy reduction measures and links customized policies such as funding and consulting support. This year, by analyzing big data secured during the project operation, it will provide more reliable carbon emission analysis compared to the previous year and standard carbon reduction plans by industry.

Last year, SBC conducted the Carbon Neutrality Level Diagnosis for a total of about 600 small and medium enterprises and provided carbon reduction improvement plans amounting to 1.39 million tCO2-eq (tons of carbon dioxide equivalent). For about 500 companies, it linked support such as policy funds of 128.8 billion KRW and equipment subsidies to promote carbon neutrality practices.

Starting this year, financial incentives such as preferential interest rates on SBC policy funds and commercial bank loans will also be provided to companies with excellent greenhouse gas reduction performance among those who received the Carbon Neutrality Level Diagnosis.

Kim Hak-do, Chairman of SBC, said, "Due to unprecedented climate anomalies, demands for global carbon neutrality will become even stronger," adding, "SBC plans to create an atmosphere for voluntary carbon-neutral management introduction through various public-private joint support policies based on the Carbon Neutrality Level Diagnosis."
