"Kim Byeongnae, Mayor of Gwangju Nam-gu, Focuses Officials Only on Current Issues"

Assemblyman Jeong Chang-su "Urgent Need for Reassignment to Civil Petition Sites"

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Jeong Chang-su, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Nam-gu Council, emphasized that "the allocation of public officials should not only focus on the district mayor's interests and departments handling current projects but should also be evenly distributed to frontline civil complaint departments."

Jeong announced on the 8th that he proposed conducting a "Management Diagnosis for the Mid- to Long-Term Development of Nam-gu" containing such content at the 2nd plenary session of the 291st extraordinary meeting.

"Kim Byeongnae, Mayor of Gwangju Nam-gu, Focuses Officials Only on Current Issues"

Jeong stated, "The number of public officials at Nam-gu Office increased by about 43% from 2013 to 2022," adding, "Even if this was an unnecessary increase due to compliance with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's standard personnel criteria for promoting current tasks, there are many parts that are hard to understand."

Despite this increase in personnel, he pointed out that "compared to other districts, Nam-gu has more employees concentrated in the main office management departments than in the civil complaint frontline departments."

He especially claimed, "Personnel are concentrated only on the district mayor's interests and current projects," and "there is an urgent need to reallocate personnel to the frontline civil complaint departments."

Jeong said, "Although there are difficult departments, it is necessary to conduct a cold evaluation on whether personnel allocation is well done without any leaks or if personnel are disproportionately concentrated only on the district mayor's interest projects."

To this end, he proposed, "We must conduct a ‘Management Diagnosis for the Mid- to Long-Term Development of Nam-gu’ within this year, not just a formal organizational diagnosis or management evaluation."
