[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Busan Port Authority (BPA) held the 'Busan Port 2050 Carbon Neutrality Comprehensive Plan Establishment Project Final Report Meeting' on the 8th at the Busan Port International Exhibition & Convention Center.
The final report meeting was attended by port stakeholders including the Busan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office, Busan City, Gyeongsangnam-do, and Busan Port terminal operators.
The Busan Port Carbon Neutrality Comprehensive Plan set the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030 compared to the 2018 Busan Port emissions, and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. To achieve this, it derived 9 strategic tasks and 18 detailed implementation tasks.
Busan Port Authority held the final report meeting for the Busan Port 2050 Carbon Neutral Comprehensive Plan Establishment Project.
The detailed implementation tasks include ▲ low-carbonization of cargo handling equipment ▲ energy saving in buildings ▲ introduction of renewable energy ▲ greenhouse gas absorption and capture ▲ voluntary greenhouse gas reduction activities.
BPA plans to reflect the contents of the final report meeting and the research project results in the final plan, and once the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announces the 'Basic Plan for Establishing Carbon Neutral Ports,' it will strive for port carbon neutrality in line with government policies.
Kang Jun-seok, President of BPA, said, “Realizing carbon neutrality is essential for Busan Port to develop into a sustainable port,” and added, “We will actively promote this comprehensive plan and do our best to achieve the Busan Port carbon neutrality goal by 2050.”
