'Dialogue with Future Generations with the Ministry of Economy and Finance 2030 Advisory Group' Held
[Asia Economy Reporter Joo Sang-don] Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choo Kyung-ho stated on the 8th, "We will identify and promote reform tasks from the perspective of the younger generation in the 'Fiscal Vision 2050' to be announced in the first half of this year."
On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Choo held a dialogue with the future generation along with the Ministry of Economy and Finance 2030 Advisory Group at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) and made these remarks.
The advisory group, launched in November last year, consists of 20 young people in their 20s and 30s, including youth aides. They perform roles such as monitoring major policies of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, making policy suggestions, and collecting and conveying youth opinions.
This meeting was organized to listen to thoughts and concerns about difficulties directly related to the lives of the younger generation, such as jobs, housing, marriage, and childbirth, and to reflect them in future policies including Fiscal Vision 2050.
Youth participants pointed out that due to this year's economic downturn, the perceived employment conditions for young people are worsening, and proposed strengthening employment mentoring, integrated talent education combining humanities and sciences, and expanding support for regional startup companies as solutions to youth employment difficulties.
Additionally, attendees identified housing issues as one of the biggest concerns for young people and called for measures to ease youth housing burdens, such as strengthening jeonse (key money deposit) loan and monthly rent support, expanding rental housing, and providing legal consultation related to real estate contracts.
Regarding the low birthrate issue, they agreed that fundamental measures are important, such as job creation, easing burdens of housing and education expenses, and alleviating childcare burdens through work-family balance, rather than short-term or one-time cash support.
Deputy Prime Minister Choo said, "We will strive to ensure that the intentions of the younger generation are sufficiently reflected in the process of establishing and implementing related policies," and added, "Even after this meeting, we will continue to hold dialogues on various topics that the Ministry of Economy and Finance 2030 Advisory Group and the younger generation are concerned about."
