Protest Rally if "Sangmin Lee Impeachment Motion Passes"

"Criticism that it is intended to deal a blow to the Yoon Seok-yeol government"

[Asia Economy Reporters Kum Boryeong and Kim Youngwon] As the three opposition parties including the Democratic Party of Korea push for the impeachment motion against Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min to be submitted and voted on at the National Assembly plenary session on the 8th, the People Power Party has decided to hold a protest rally if the motion passes.

Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the People Power Party, told reporters immediately after a party meeting at the National Assembly in the afternoon, "If the impeachment motion passes, we will hold a protest rally." He also plans to conduct a government questioning session.

Floor leader Joo emphasized that Minister Lee is not subject to impeachment. He explained, "A constitutional law scholar says the probability of impeachment is zero because impeachment applies only when there is a violation of the Constitution or laws in the execution of duties," adding, "The Constitutional Court has already clarified the conditions for impeachment in several cases, and Minister Lee does not fall under any of them."

He continued, "They always say it is the department responsible for overall safety, but the Democratic Party’s intention to prevent the head from working is to divert public attention from the judicial processing of Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung," and criticized, "What else could it be other than to deal a blow to the Yoon Seok-yeol administration?"

He also expressed concern about the vacancy of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. Floor leader Joo said, "If the duties are suspended, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety will not function properly," and added, "Creating a vacancy for a short period of three to four months or possibly longer contradicts what the Democratic Party has previously stated."

Earlier, floor leader Joo pointed out at the People Power Party meeting, "The Democratic Party has an uncontrollable number of seats, so they repeatedly run wild because they cannot be restrained."
