Request for Relief Supplies Support in Korean on SNS
"Brotherly Nation... Will Not Forget the Help"
As casualties continue to rise following a magnitude 7.8 earthquake in T?rkiye, a Turkish citizen requested support for T?rkiye in Korean on social media.
Selin G?ner, a digital producer at a broadcasting station in Istanbul, T?rkiye, posted on Twitter on the 7th (local time), saying, "This is an emergency. T?rkiye needs international help," and added, "Thousands of people are on the streets as houses have collapsed in T?rkiye." G?ner has been communicating with Korean netizens by posting in Korean on Twitter since 2018.

She stated, "Financial support is needed to meet basic needs such as sleeping bags, blankets, baby food, and food supplies," and included addresses of several Turkish public institutions assisting the disaster victims.
In another post, G?ner explained, "Because of the large currency value difference between T?rkiye and Korea, the price of three cups of coffee in Korea is equivalent to the value of five blankets in T?rkiye," adding, "Donations that you may consider small are important in T?rkiye."
The post spread mainly among Koreans, with some sharing photos confirming their donations. In response, G?ner said, "Koreans are truly amazing. Thank you to everyone who donated," and added, "I am moved to tears by the kindness of so many people beyond what I could have imagined. This reminded me why I love Korea." She continued, "I am deeply grateful," and said, "We will not forget the help from our brother country."
Earlier, at around 4:17 a.m. on the 6th, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck inland about 33 km from Gaziantep in southern T?rkiye. Following large aftershocks, approximately 8,000 deaths were reported in T?rkiye and Syria. The World Health Organization (WHO) warned that in the worst case, the death toll could reach up to 20,000.
Meanwhile, countries around the world, including Korea, have extended helping hands to support T?rkiye. In particular, the Korean government urgently dispatched an emergency relief team consisting of 118 members, including personnel from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Fire Agency, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the Army Special Warfare Command, and military medical staff. This deployment is the largest emergency relief team Korea has sent overseas to date.
