'Welcome, First Time in Korea?' Seafood Gourmet Tour at Jukdo and Homigot
'When the Camellia Blooms' and 'Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha' Strengthen Drama City Status
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Pohang City is naturally promoting the unique charm and diverse tourism infrastructure of Pohang widely as entertainment and educational programs, dramas, as well as YouTube content filmed against the backdrop of various tourist attractions throughout the region gain popularity.
According to Pohang City, from last year to recently, more than 30 various broadcasting media and content, including terrestrial and comprehensive programming channels as well as videos by famous YouTubers, have visited Pohang in entertainment and educational programs to introduce various sights, activities, and food.
First, at the end of last month, MBC every1’s entertainment program “Welcome, First Time in Korea?” aired vivid and lively scenes of several Pohang tourist attractions such as Jukdo Market, Naeyeonsan Bogyeongsa Temple, and Homigot.
In particular, this program, which explores how foreigners visiting Korea for the first time enjoy travel destinations, drew great attention from viewers by interestingly depicting Italian Michelin-star chefs enjoying fresh Pohang seafood such as snow crab, abalone, and sea cucumber, as well as experiencing various local cultures including the Homigot Hand of Coexistence and haenyeo (female divers).
Earlier, KBS’s urban travel documentary “A Walk Around the Neighborhood” also visited Pohang at the beginning of the new year. The host, former wrestling champion Lee Mangi, visited his mother-in-law living in Pohang and the largest experiential sculpture Space Walk in Korea, as well as Homigot, Keundonghae Market, and the haenyeo families of Guryongpo, conveying the warm scenes of Pohang’s neighborhoods and people.
Through KBS’s entertainment program “Park Wonsook’s Let’s Live Together”, the natural coastal scenery of Damupo Whale Village, marine sports, and delicacies such as mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) and snow crab were introduced, highlighting the special experiences of living in Pohang. In November last year, KBS’s representative entertainment program “2 Days & 1 Night” also introduced landmarks such as Space Walk and Gonryunsan Mountain, as well as seasonal specialties like snow crab.

Soyoung, a popular mukbang YouTuber with 9 million subscribers, visited Pohang in November last year, touring tourist spots such as Yeongildae Beach and Gwamegi Culture Center, and her video of enjoying the city’s specialties including fresh snow crab and octopus, known as the “10 Tastes,” has gained popularity. Meanwhile, visits by famous travel YouTubers and their calm travel vlog videos continue.
Especially, since the Korea Tourism Organization released the global promotional YouTube video “Feel the Rhythm of Korea” Pohang edition at the end of October last year, which expresses a ‘hip’ city image through fast and intense hip-hop beats and stylish visuals, the cumulative views have surpassed 95 million, promoting Pohang’s charm internationally.
Above all, healing dramas filmed against beautiful landscapes such as Pohang Cheongha Gongjin Market and Guryongpo, including “When the Camellia Blooms” and “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha,” have gained great popularity, making Pohang beloved as a drama filming tourism destination.
Park Sangjin, head of the Convention Tourism Industry Division of Pohang City, said, “Through various entertainment and drama programs, Pohang’s natural scenic beauty and specialties, which make it an excellent travel destination, are being widely promoted. We will do our best to revitalize tourism so that tourists visiting Pohang can enjoy ‘something new every time and every moment as a journey,’ and want to revisit and stay longer, in line with the diversifying tourism trends.”
