Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4 Main Equipment Manufacturing Begins: "Industry Job Creation in Full Swing"

[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power and Doosan Enerbility have begun preliminary manufacturing work for the main equipment of Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4, officially starting the supply of work orders in the nuclear power industry.

On the 8th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held a 'Nuclear Power Ecosystem Support Briefing and On-site Meeting' at Gyeongnam Technopark in Changwon, Gyeongnam, together with nuclear power companies including KHNP and Doosan Enerbility, announcing this development.

KHNP and Doosan Enerbility are preparing to sign the main equipment contract for Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4 by the end of March. Prior to this, preliminary manufacturing work for the main equipment to select work orders began at the end of January.

With Doosan Enerbility now able to officially place work orders to its partners, it is expected that work supply will be possible about two months earlier than the original plan of ordering after the contract. Previously, in December last year, Doosan Enerbility pre-ordered work worth 32.4 billion KRW for Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4 to about 50 partner companies and announced plans to supply additional work orders exceeding 200 billion KRW to all partner companies within this year.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy plans to foster specialized manpower in the nuclear power industry by establishing a special financial program for small and medium-sized enterprises as part of this year's key support directions for the nuclear power ecosystem, including expanding work supply, strengthening financial support, and nurturing specialized personnel.

Companies attending the meeting reported that the supply of preliminary work orders for Shin Hanul Units 3 and 4 has revitalized the industry but requested that KHNP expand the advance payment to partner companies and extend the period and amount of support projects for manpower recruitment.

Park Il-jun, Vice Minister of Industry, said, "We will support a comprehensive policy package including work orders, finance, and research and development (R&D) to accelerate the nuclear power industry's leap forward this year."
