[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Compensation for the target site of the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster in Wonsam-myeon, Cheoin-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do is nearly complete, making large-scale civil engineering work possible in the first half of this year.
On the 7th, Yongin City announced that 99% of the land compensation and 75% of the compensation for affected properties (based on owners) for the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster site in Wonsam-myeon have been completed.
The project implementer, Yongin General Industrial Complex Co., Ltd., is currently preparing for the construction of the main complex by carrying out tree felling and installing temporary facilities on the land where ownership has been secured.
The city is also conducting investigations of buried cultural assets in coordination with the Cultural Heritage Administration, proceeding sequentially.
Earlier, before applying for industrial complex approval in April 2019, the project implementer conducted cultural heritage surface surveys at sites such as the Neutinamu tree in Jukneung-ri and the presumed site in Dokseong-ri in accordance with the 'Act on the Protection and Investigation of Buried Cultural Heritage.'
The Cultural Heritage Administration determines the preservation value of buried cultural assets through detailed verification, including sample and trial excavations, targeting the sites where surface surveys were conducted.
The city has reviewed step-by-step policies for handling the discovered presumed sites based on their preservation value as cultural heritage, so it is expected that the schedule for the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster development will not be affected.
The city plans to participate in the national advanced strategic industry specialized complex contest promoted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy by combining the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster, centered on SK Hynix, with Yongin Platform City.
In July last year, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced the 'Strategy to Achieve Semiconductor Superpower,' revealing plans to create a semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment exclusive cluster capable of research and development (R&D) through manufacturing processes by utilizing a 270,000㎡ urban high-tech industrial complex within Yongin Platform City.
Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin, expressed expectations, saying, "The large-scale Yongin Semiconductor Cluster centered on SK Hynix and Yongin Platform City, boasting the best location in the metropolitan area, will be connected in an 'L' shape to form Yongin's semiconductor ecosystem. We will ensure that both areas are designated as national advanced strategic industry specialized complexes." He added, "If the specialized complex designation is achieved, Yongin's semiconductor competitiveness will grow even stronger."
