Governor Kim Dong-yeon: "Seoul City Must Immediately Stop the Forced Removal of the Memorial Altar"

Governor Kim Dong-yeon: "Seoul City Must Immediately Stop the Forced Removal of the Memorial Altar" Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon posted a message on the 6th urgently calling for the immediate halt of the forced removal of the altar at Seoul Plaza.

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, urged the Seoul Metropolitan Government to stop the forced removal of the memorial altar at Seoul Plaza.

On the 6th, through his social network service (SNS), Governor Kim said, "There is a conflict over the forced removal of the memorial altar at Seoul Plaza set up by the bereaved families of the October 29 disaster," and directly criticized the current government and Seoul city, saying, "159 people lost their lives in a narrow and dark alley, but no one has taken responsibility at that moment or afterward."

He continued, "The conflict over the removal of the Seoul Plaza memorial altar was already anticipated when Seoul City proposed the 4th basement floor of Noksapyeong Station, which the bereaved families did not want," and appealed to Seoul City, "Please do not confine the October 29 disaster memorial space to a cold and dark underground area."

In particular, he stated, "It is also a public responsibility to help the bereaved families return to their daily lives through a complete investigation and memorial," and insisted, "Seoul City should now actively engage in dialogue with the bereaved families and strive to establish a proper memorial space."

He added, "There should be no ruling or opposition parties, nor confrontation, in mourning and healing."

Earlier, on the 5th, Governor Kim also expressed his regret through SNS, saying, "Although it is one day before the 100th day since the disaster, a complete investigation has not been conducted." He reflected that, especially as a public official, he feels a deep sense of responsibility and shame that even the bereaved families of the disaster victims have not been comforted.
