[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Kim Tae-jin, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council, announced on the 6th that he had taken the lead in proposing the 'Heating Cost Bomb! Energy Support Fund Payment Proposal' at the 309th extraordinary session.
Councilor Kim stated, "From the beginning of the new year, citizens who received heating and electricity bill notices are feeling despair," and "Energy support funds should be provided to all citizens suffering from the heating cost bomb."
He also argued, "Although the Yoon Seok-yeol administration announced a doubling of energy vouchers for vulnerable groups to calm the public anger over the heating cost bomb, support should not be limited to vulnerable groups; the government and Gwangju City must comprehensively consider the livelihood of all citizens."
Furthermore, he said, "Energy support funds should be sourced not from general citizens' taxes but from windfall taxes and the like, and the Seo-gu Council will take the lead in ensuring the introduction of the energy support fund policy."
