Nam Jae-uk, Changwon City Councilor, "Will Clarify the Fundamental Responsibility of Robot Land"

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] “Our Changwon City Council will not hesitate to get to the root of the responsibility for the Masan Robot Land lawsuit defeat.”

Nam Jae-wook, a member of the People Power Party and a councilor of Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, held a press conference on the 6th urging cooperation among administrative agencies while referring to the Masan Robot Land lawsuit outcome.

On January 16, Gyeongnam Province, Changwon City, and the Robot Land Foundation lost both the first and second trials in a lawsuit filed by the private operator of Robot Land claiming payment upon termination of the implementation agreement.

The private operator stated, “We had to repay a loan of 5 billion KRW by selling the pension site, but the foundation did not hand over the site, causing a default,” and notified the administration of the termination of the implementation agreement, filing a lawsuit in February 2020 claiming payment upon termination and other damages.

Gyeongnam Province judged that continuing the lawsuit would be an obstacle to the normalization of the Robot Land project and completed a deposit of a total of 166.2 billion KRW, including private investment and operating costs according to the judgment, at the Changwon District Court.

On that day, Councilor Nam said, “After four months of internal investigation, analysis, and information gathering, we concluded that it is necessary to accurately analyze and judge the essence of the lawsuit filed by the private operator.”

He also argued, “We must strongly punish those responsible without giving room for excuses and respond swiftly and firmly.”

He emphasized, “We should not overlook or ignore the problem, but even now, face the residents and citizens, and with the cooperation of the governor and the mayor of Changwon as the lead, the provincial council and city council should actively meet to form a countermeasure consultative body and overcome the difficulties together.”

Councilor Nam stated, “The future of Robot Land should proceed independently and responsibly without administrative interference,” and “Based on management principles armed with a sense of ownership, the city council will cooperate so that it can be transformed into a strategic space for leisure and rest for residents and citizens and be reborn as a future axis of Changwon.”
